Biography and Vision
Andrew Norris Thompson paints from a place of wonder, investigating the contents of the collective unconscious. By using pareidolia- a psychological phenomenon wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern in something where none actually exists- he builds worlds guided by subconscious musings, creating a narrative as the forms develop.
Inspired by dreams, the complexities of human relationships, and a desire to transcend the confines of normal consciousness, his art speaks to the depth and breadth of human experience.
Andrew seeks to feature our shared humanity amidst the beauty and chaos of our increasingly novel world while exploring the contents of the collective unconscious. Drawing on both the visionary lineage of artists like Robert Venosa and Alex Grey and the more abstract and design-based work of his contemporaries, he has synthesized a unique style all his own.
